MultiWAN
A connection has been lost.
Not your company.
OIT MultiWAN combines multiple Internet connections into a single, fast, and reliable business connection. The available bandwidth is aggregated across multiple lines. If one connection fails, data traffic continues to flow through the remaining lines—without unnecessary interruptions.
Challenge
One line. One risk of failure.
Cloud applications, telephony, VPN, ERP, and digital processes make the Internet connection a part of critical business infrastructure. A single connection remains a single point of failure.
A traditional secondary backup link only partially solves the problem: It incurs costs but often contributes neither to bandwidth nor to performance during normal operation.
- Outage of an Internet Service Provider
- Internet Connection Outage
- Bandwidth bottlenecks
- Dependence on a single connection
- Interruption of Cloud and Communications Services
- Unused backup capacity
Solution
Multiple lines. One shared connection.
OIT MultiWAN connects different Internet access points in parallel and consolidates them into a single corporate connection using Multipath TCP.
Fiber optics, DSL, cable, LTE/5G, or Starlink can also be combined across different providers. The bundled connection is provided via a central OIT aggregation server located in a German data center. For the connected applications, it remains a single, stable Internet connection with a fixed public IP address.
Advantages
More bandwidth. More availability.
- True Bandwidth Aggregation
- Seamless Failover
- Independent of the provider
- Fixed Public IP Address
- Encrypted Data Transmission
- Flexible Scalability
- Managed Operations by OIT
Multiple lines. One shared connection.
Here's how OIT MultiWAN works.
Connections
Various Internet connections—such as fiber optics, DSL, cable, LTE/5G, or Starlink—are connected to OIT MultiWAN simultaneously.
Bundle
Multipath TCP distributes traffic simultaneously across the available links and technically combines them into a single connection.
Aggregate
The data streams are consolidated via a central OIT aggregation server located in a German data center.
Deploy
Your systems will have stable, high-speed Internet access with a static public IP address.
Secure
If a line goes down, the remaining infrastructure takes over the data traffic—without requiring existing connections to be reestablished unnecessarily.
More than just load balancing.
True consolidation rather than mere distribution.
Traditional load balancing distributes individual connections across different lines. A single download or cloud upload remains limited to the speed of a single line.
OIT MultiWAN continues: Data streams are routed over multiple connections using Multipath TCP. This allows even a single data transfer to utilize the available bandwidth of multiple lines.
OpenWrt
An open router platform without proprietary vendor lock-in.
Multipath TCP
Standardized multipath procedure according to RFC 8684 for using multiple connections.
Encrypted Tunnel
Data traffic is transmitted in encrypted form via the OIT infrastructure.
Fixed Public IP
A static public IP address remains the same regardless of which Internet service provider you use.
Availability is part of security.
MultiWAN combines multiple Internet connections into a fail-safe business connection. If one connection or provider goes down, an available connection takes over—automatically and without unnecessary interruptions.
Redundancy
Create alternative routes.
Availability
Keep critical services available.
Control
Monitor connections centrally.
Resilience
Reduce dependencies and single points of failure.
A line is down.
Your connection will remain active.
FIBERGLASS
High-performance primary connection.
PROVIDER 2
Independent, additional Internet access.
5G / LTE
Alternative connection for additional redundancy.
STARLINK
Satellite connectivity for locations with limited infrastructure.
